Land O' Lakes, FL Chiropractic and Cervicogenic Headache

We see a great number of folks with headaches in our Land O' Lakes, FL office, and Dr. Michael Craven has been able to support many of them. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 50 percent of all adults have difficulty with some sort of headache condition, so this really isn’t unexpected. One of the most typical varieties of headaches that our patients experience is cervicogenic headache which, luckily, chiropractic can generally help.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is one that arises from problems in the cervical spine. It could be due to a problem with either the spine itself (in particular, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it can be due to a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine creates constriction or aggravation of the spinal nerves, which can generate headache pain.

How can you tell if the headache you are enduring is a cervicogenic headache? Apart from being given a diagnosis from a healthcare specialist, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or discomfort in your neck. This is occasionally accompanied by pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

Chiropractic to the Rescue

Considering cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever issue is initiating them is corrected, it is crucial to get treatment as opposed to just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an excellent approach, and one that offers a great deal of pain relief.

In one study released in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, specialists followed 80 people who had frequent cervicogenic headaches. Half of them got chiropractic care and the other half underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was evaluated 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the best results.

In particular, this study revealed that chiropractic adjustments provided patients greater pain relief and diminished the number of headaches that occurred. What's more, it also minimized the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
